Patch Picks: Ideas for Spring Break

Five staycations that feel like a getaway.

Not going away for Spring break? There are all kinds of fun things to do with your family right here in the area that will make it a week to remember.

Here are some of Reston Patch's best ideas for a staycation:

1.    Mt. Vernon - Visiting George Washington’s home is an educational experience that is really fun too. Check out the National Treasure Tour, the new vistitor's center and a temporary exhibit, Bringing Them Home: 150 Years of Restoring the Washington Collection.

2.    Great Falls Park - If the weather is nice, head over to Great Falls Park for an active day of hiking. Bring your own charcoal ,and you can grill right in the park and have dinner overlooking the falls.

3.    A Day in D.C.  - The Nation’s Capitol is there for the taking, so head downtown and take advantage of everything the city has to offer. Some of our favorites off the Smithsonian path:  The Spy Museum and the The National Building Museum.

 4.    Baltimore Inner Harbor - You can easily fill a day or more at Inner Harbor, with many attractions including the National Aquarium, the Maryland Science Center, the Port Discover Children’s Museum and the Geppi’s Entertainment Museum.

5.    Old Town Alexandria - A day spent wandering around Old Town can include a water taxi ride over to National Harbor, a ride on the King Street trolley and a visit to the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
