Metro: 41 Minutes From Wiehle-Reston East to Metro Center

Officials give travel estimates as part of Silver Line marketing campaign.

Metro and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation are teaming up to market the new Silver Line to potential rail users. Among the selling points: Board at Wiehle-Reston East and be at Metro Center in 41 minutes.

The Washington Post sat in on a presentation to the Metro Riders’ Advisory Council last week where travel times on the new line were presented.

Wiehle-Reston East will be the end of Silver Line's Phase I for about five years. Trains are expected to begin running in early 2014.

Metro also estimates that Wiehle-Reston East will be the busiest of five new Silver Line stops with a ridership of about 16,000 per day in its first year, the Post reports. That is due, in part, to parking at the Reston stop. Wiehle-Reston East, with about 3,000 parking spots in a seven-story underground garage, will be the only Silver Line station with parking.

Do you think Silver Line travel will replace car trips for Reston residents who are not headed all the way downtown? Tell us in the comments.
