Interfaith Dialogue in Reston Sunday

Jewish, Muslim and Christian leaders get together to talk about understanding.

The event,  “Peace and Understanding Between Jews, Christians and Muslims:  Where Does Humanity Lie?” is sponsored by George Mason University’s Center for World Religions Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution.

Among the clergy taking part in Sunday's event: Rabbi Marc Gopin, Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution; Rev. Elizabeth Hagan, ; Rabbi Michael Holzman, Imam Mohammed Magid, All Dulles Area Muslim Society; Pastor John Moyle,   Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk, Senior Rabbi, Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple (Beachwood, OH) and former rabbi at NVHC;  Imam Yusuf Saleem, Masjid Mohammed (Washington, D.C.).

 The coalition of Christian, Islamic and Jewish clergy from the region traveled to Israel and Palestine in January to connect with groups seeking peaceful solutions to conflict.

Nosanchuk, along with Magid, was honored as a 2010 Best of Reston winner for his work fostering interfaith relations. He says that understanding at the global level can have an impact at the local level.

"I think that Reston and Northern Virginia are a microcosm of world views, cultues and faiths," said Nosanchuk. "They sometimes have limited info about each other. [Seminars like this are] incredibly valuable to learn about yourself."
