Heritage Fellowship Church Dedicates Addition

Special events and special guests on hand this week to open new sanctuary.

The members of Heritage Fellowship Church will celebrate the grand opening of their new sanctuary at 2501 Fox Mill Rd. this week.

The celebration will include three services featuring special guest ministers from area churches and acclaimed gospel artists.

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, the church will mark the occasion with a service of Thanksgiving and Appreciation for the new building lead by Leonard N. Smith, senior pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Arlington, VA, and gospel recording artist Maurette Brown Clark.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, the church will host tours of the new facility.  Later, a Service of Consecration for the new building will be lead by H. Beecher Hicks, Jr., senior servant at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Washington, DC.  A light meal will be served after the Consecration Service (Reservations needed - sign up via the website www.heritagefellowshipchurch.org).

On Sunday at both the 7:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services, Robert Smith, professor from Beeson School of Divinity, Samford University in Birmingham, AL, will lead the service of Celebration with gospel recording artists Kim and Kelly. Tours will be scheduled for that day as well from 9:45 am until service begins.

Heritage Fellowship Church began in Reston in 1978 as Christian Community Fellowship Church (CCFC).  In 1984, the congregation affiliated with the United Church of Christ, a relationship that lasted through 2005. Since then, the church has been called simply Heritage Fellowship Church.

The church now has members from Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun and Prince William Counties and has experienced steady growth under the leadership of its senior pastor, Norman A. Tate.

Congratulations on your new addition and on being a flourishing church. That is pleasing to God I am sure - and also to me - but I am sorry you have left the United Church of Christ, a church where all God's people are welcome and the diversity God has created is considered a gift. Blessings as you move forward.
