Who Has the Spookiest Yard in Reston?

Halloween is almost here. Do you have decorations a goblin would envy?

You can tell it is almost Halloween by the rising number of gravestones, cobwebs, ghosts and pumpkins dotting Reston homeowners' yards.

In recent years, people have taken to decorating Halloween with enthusiasm previously only seen during the Christmas season. This year, they are spending about $53 on the average, down from about $73 in 2010, according to the American Express Spending & Savings Tracker.

"There is no doubt that consumers are watching their wallets. But we know that they are taking part in Halloween and I think it is because Halloween is an experiential holiday,"  Melanie Backs, manager of public affairs at American Express, told Reuters.

"Halloween has evolved from being a one-night event mostly focused on kids trick-or-treating to a full season. We're seeing candy and decorations on sale in late August."
