The first tropical depression of the 2014 Hurricane Season is expected to form off the Atlantic Coast this week.

The system is moving southwest, but will begin moving in a north and northeastward pattern as conditions improve for development, according to the latest analysis by the National Hurricane Center.

There is a 60 percent chance of development over the next 48 hours, and an 80 percent chance in the next 5 days.

The tropical weather may mean storms for parts of the Eastern Seaboard this week, according to The Weather Channel, particularly from Florida to North Carolina.

Hurricane season begins June 1, but its not uncommon for the season to see its first storm in late June or early July.

The 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook in May indicated a near-normal or below-normal hurricane season, with 8-13 named storms and up to 6 hurricanes.
