Scholarship Awards - The Closet of Herndon

OUR PRESS RELEASE FOLLOWS: The Closet of Greater Herndon recently awarded $15,000 in college scholarships to 13 deserving high school graduates in ceremonies at five local high schools. The names of the 2013 scholarship winners are: Herndon High School: Katherine Ramirez-Lopez and Matthew White Parkview High School: Adni Rahman, Uyen Thuy Tran, and Rachel Villalobos Oakton High School: Erin Bennett, Kelly Brooks and Peter Ott Mountain View High School: Freedom Marques and William Parrella South Lakes: Melissa Guadalupe Martinez, Stephen Gurley and Tommy Reyes Since 1974 The Closet has awarded nearly $425,000 in college scholarships to more than 390 students. In this same 39 year period, The Closet has distributed over $2.6 million in direct cash grants to local service groups of which the scholarship program is an important part. The Closet of Greater Herndon is a non-profit thrift shop founded and operated by numerous area faith based communities. With a small dedicated staff and a very active volunteer cadre, The Closet provides shoppers low-cost, good quality used clothing, shoes, books and other household items. Donations of clothing and small household items are always needed, graciously accepted, and may be dropped off at the store Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Retail store hours are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The Closet welcomes new volunteers at anytime Monday through Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please see the store manager, Aaron Sawyer. The Closet also welcomes student volunteers fulfilling their community service requirements for school or who just want to serve their community.
