ENDLESS CUP COFFEEHOUSE presents JAN GILLIES
ENDLESS CUP COFFEEHOUSE presents JAN GILLIES
CALLING ALL POETRY & MUSIC TALENT! The Endless Cup Coffeehouse in Reston, VA, seeks musicians and poets during our open mic from 8-9 PM on Friday, January 10th. Whether or not you are a performer, the coffeehouse experience is unique and memorable.
Our main performer, Jan Gillies, goes on at 9 PM. Having lived an extremely unusual life for a kid from northern Indiana, Jan uses her singer and songwriting skills to tell stories of her adventures over decades of working as a sailor, scientist, environmentalist, professional SCUBA diver, Hospice director, EMT, teacher, and other professions too numerous to mention. Developing her initial Travis-picking style in coffeehouses from the Chicago area & Kangaroo Island, Australia to Miami, Florida, she has played in swamps, on shipboard, music festivals, and a wide range of usual and unusual venues. Her songs tend to be very unique, going well past the usual “Done Me Wrong” songs, dealing instead with such diverse subjects as singing lizards, squid encounters, swamps, war & environmental issues, as well as the agonies of human relationships – often with odd & unexpected humorous twists. Jan presents a unique blend of contemporary and traditional influences in her music.
Join us on January 10th, 8-10 PM, and every second Friday of the month at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston (1625 Wiehle Ave). Snacks and beverages are provided and a $5 donation is suggested.
