Government Watch: Reston Association Tells Two Businesses To Clean Up

Plus, RCC spots open, helicopter crew wins an award and Jackson refiles.

Earlier this month Reston Association turned two cases over to its legal committee to take action against Reston businesses that have failed to clean up their properties.

RA has cited Hunters Woods Fellowship House for failure to clean up graffiti on its property. It has also cited nearby Soapstone Convenience Center (the mini strip mall at 2303 Soapstone Dr. for not maintaining its parking lot.

The case with Soapstone Convenience Center has been ongoing since last year,  and nearby neighbors have complained about dead trees, peeling paint and general disrepair.

The center's owners need to show the RA Design Review Board plans for improvements to the parking lot, asphalt and sidewalk, according to RA documents.

In other government news:

Reston Association's Board voted earlier this month to support "Momentum: The Next Generation of Metro."

Momentum is a $26 billion strategic plan released by Metro this summer detailing the transportation agency's vision — which includes several substantial recommendations like new Potomac River crossings and new metro stations — for taking the transit agency into 2025, 2040 and beyond.

Lt. Governor candidate E.W. Jackson refiled his campaign finance statement - this time with the missing 23 donors.

The Fairfax County Helicopter Unit earned kudos.

In case you missed it, there are three spots opening on Reston Community Center's Board of Governors. Want to serve on the nine-member team responsible for making decisions about RCC?
