Government Watch: Natural Gas Suit, GreenTech Scrutiny, and Winning Wastewater Treatment

County and local government news you need to know.

1. Cuccinelli in hot water? The Virginia Inspector General is officially investigating the attorney general office’s role in a federal lawsuit over natural gas royalties and whether a staff member gave advice to energy company lawyers.

Officials are investigating a series of emails from a deputy attorney general under Ken Cuccinelli — the GOP's gubernatorial candidate in Virginia's 2013 elections— that appear to advise legal teams for Pennsylvania energy companies CONSOL Energy and EQT Production.

2. GreenTech scrutiny - Virginia Republicans aren’t done questioning Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe about his business dealings with GreenTech Automotive, the car company that has become the object of both government and media scrutiny.

Over the weekend, The New York Times examined how McAuliffe used his political connections as the former chair of the Democratic National Committee in relation to the eco-friendly car company.

3. Recycling time - Fairfax County will hold its monthly Electric Sunday this weekend. Bring discarded computers, phones and other electronics to be safely disposed. Details here.

5. Kudos for county wastewater - The Fairfax County wastewater treatment plant has been honored for meeting top standards for 15 years in a row. The plant removes about 99 percent of pollutants from 67 million gallons of wastewater daily.
