Government Watch: Crescent on Docket, Car Taxes on Calendar

Five things to know for Aug. 28.


1. Crescent Coming Up - On Sept. 10, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will have a decision on the proposed interim agreement for the redevelopment of Reston's Crescent Apartments. Get up to speed on the issue here.

2. Oakcrest Eyes New Spot - also on the Sept. 10 BOS agenda: a public hearing on the previously approved zoning ordinance for the Oakcrest School, which is seeking to develop 22 acres at Hunter Mill and the Dulles Toll Road for its campus. The girls schools is seeking modifications in the site access, but opponents say it will clog already-busy roads further.

3. Libraries by the numbersReston 2020 has put together some charts on the Board of Supervisors recent impacts to county libraries. There will be a library board meeting on Sept. 11 discussing changes (which have been postponed) that may impact Reston Regional and other libraries. Public comment is encouraged. Reston Citizens Association also passed a resolution this week opposing potential library changes.

4. Stay safe - There have been several incidents of crime on the Reston Association paths recently. RA and the Fairfax County Police have some tips for staying safe on the 55-miles of trails.

5. It's that time of year again - Fairfax County car taxes are due on Oct. 7. You should have gotten your bill in the mail by now. Click here to pay online.
