Mike passed away in February 2012\, and this year& rsquo\;s tournament will be held in his memory. The Putting Contest for ALS begins at 12:45pm\, with a shotgun start at 2:00 pm\, followed by an awards dinner. \; The tournament will be held at 1757 Golf Club\, 4 5120 Waxpool Road\, Dulles\, VA\, 20166.  \;\n \;\nALS is a prog ressive neuromuscular disease that occurs when motor nerve cells cease t o function and die. There are 30\,000 people living with ALS in the Unit ed States at any one time. Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with th e disease and every 90 minutes someone passes away from ALS. In most cas es a person&rsquo\;s mind remains sharp and alert\; however\, voluntary muscle control becomes completely lost\, often resulting in total paraly sis and the inability to speak. The average life expectancy for someone living with ALS is two to five years after diagnosis.
