Find out more about Reston Association Board of Directors election in RA's monthly video.
Reston Today, the monthly video produced by Reston Association, sits down with the three candidates for three board of directors seats. More: Typo Stalls Reston Association Election Election Must Go On Even Unopposed
Does the commonwealth need another name on the ballot?
Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling took himself out of Virginia's race for governor last week, leaving, at least for now, what's shaping up to be a two-person race. The choice for the Old Dominion's next governor, seven months before Election Day, seems to have boiled down to presumptive Republican nominee Ken Cuccinelli, the state's socially conservative attorney general, against likely Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and a McLean businessman. The Republican Party of Virginia will hold its convention on May 17 and 18 in Richmond to formally select its nominee. Democrats go to the polls on June 11 to cast their ballots in several races, including governor and lieutenant governor. …

Ballots delayed after misspelling discovered in voter's guide.
Balloting for the 2013 Reston Association's Board of Directors' election officially began on March 4. However, most RA members have not cast a vote because they have not received their ballots. The ballots were scheduled to be delivered by mail beginning March 4. Residents also need those ballots to access the online voting system. Cate Fulkerson, RA's Director of Administration, Member Services and IT, says two things have lead to the delay - a production error and a mailing rate decision. New vendor Intelliscan discovered on Feb. 26 that "Association" was misspelled on the ballot guide, Fulkerson said. "Our in-house team was surprised, as was I, on learning of the error," she said. "Especially since we were using design work from the …

Knueven, Thompson and Cohn discuss improving existing assets and preparing for a transit-oriented Reston at 2013 Candidates Forum.
Metro is coming to Reston, but is Reston ready for Metro? That was the recurring theme of Monday night's Reston Association candidates forum, where the three candidates for three open board spots answered pre- submitted questions from RA members and RA Election Committee members. Since all three candidates are running unopposed - the first time this has happened since 2009 - they are all but assured three-year terms on the board. However, RA By-Laws say there must be an election and there must be a quorum of 10 percent of the eligible votes for each district. So At-Large candidate Ken Knueven (current RA president), North Point candidate Tim Cohn and Lake Anne/Tall Oaks candidate Eve Thompson participated in the relatively mellow forum - …
Longtime resident seeking Reston Association board spot representing Lake Anne/Tall Oaks.
Three Reston Association Board of Directors seats are up for grabs this spring. All three candidates are running unopposed. Voting opened Monday. Even though all three candidates for North Point, Lake Anne/Tall Oaks and At-Large Director are running unopposed, RA bylaws say an election still must take place and a quorum of 10 percent of eligible votes must be counted. Meet Eve Thompson, who lives at Heron House at Lake Anne and runs the Saturday Crafters Market on Lake Anne Plaza. Thompson is a Realtor and former president of the Lake Anne Merchants Association. She narrowly missed earning a spot as an At-Large Director in 2012. Year I moved to Reston - 1986 My favorite place in Reston is: Lake Anne Plaza What makes Reston special? …

Current Lake Anne/Tall Oaks Director is running for an at-large seat.
Three Reston Association Board of Directors seats are up for grabs this spring. All three candidates are running unopposed. The forum begins at 7 p.m. RA encourages members to vote as each candidate must have a quorum of 10 percent of eligible voters. Patch sent questionnaires to all three candidates and will publish them in coming days. Ken Knueven is currently finishing his three-year first term at Lake Anne/Tall Oaks Director and his first one-year term as RA president. He is running for re-election as an at-large candidate. Year I moved to Reston - 1988 My favorite place in Reston is - my deck on Lake Anne What makes Reston special? Its people…

News reports say fundraiser for McAuliffe, Democrat running for governor in Virginia, is set for March 13.
Former President Bill Clinton will headline a fundraiser March 13 in New York for Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chair and electric car entrepreneur who is making a second run for governor of Virginia, according to a recent report by the New York Daily News. McAuliffe, 56, a resident of McLean, was defeated by State Sen. Creigh Deeds (D-Bath) in the 2009 Democratic primary in his previous run for the governor's seat. So far, McAuliffe faces Republican Ken Cuccinelli, 44, Virginia Attorney General, in the governor's race. There's a possibility that Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, 55, could still get into the race as an independent; he's told supporters to expect some sort of an announcement March 14. The election is in Nov…

Three candidates for three Reston Association board spots still must go through election process, Reston bylaws say.
Even though all three of the open Reston Association Board of Directors spots have just one candidate each, the election must go on as scheduled. That's because Reston bylaws say there must be voting by referendum by the members and there must be an election quorum of 10 percent of the eligible voters. "In accordance with the Section III.5(a) of the Amended Reston Deed, the Directors are elected by the voting members," says Cate Fulkerson, RA's Director of Administration, IT & Member Services. "In order to have an election, there must be a vote of the members." Fulkerson added that the Association’s governing documents say the voting by the members must be done by referendum. "So whether running contested or uncontested, annually, the …

Larry Dunn says he is no longer running for Reston Association Northpoint Director; All three seats will have unopposed candidates.
Larry Dunn, a candidate for the Northpoint Director spot in the 2013 Reston Association Board of Directors election, has withdrawn from the race. Dunn, a retired soldier and corrections officer, is the second board candidate in the last few days to drop out. At-large candidate John Farrell, a land use lawyer and longtime Reston resident who also ran for an at-large spot in 2012, withdrew his application late last week. That means the three open RA Board positions will all be uncontested races. Realtor Eve Thompson is now unopposed for the Lake Anne/Tall Oaks seat. RA president Ken Knueven is the only at-large candidate and former Reston Runners president Tim Cohn is unopposed for the Northpoint spot. Leaving the board are at-large director…

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling tells dinner guests to "save the date" for a March 14 announcement. Speculation is running high on a potential independent bid for Virginia governor.
Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Democrat Terry McAuliffe could get some company in the race for governor of Virginia. Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, a Republican, told a dinner crowd Wednesday night in Richmond to save March 14 for a big announcement, the AP reports. Bolling, currently serving his second term as lieutenant governor, decided to quit the Republican race for Virginia governor after conservatives loyal to his intraparty rival, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, took a majority of seats on the state GOP's central committee and opted for a closed nominating convention instead of an open primary. "[Bolling] has been very successful in staking out positions that have gotten him a lot of attention this year," Stephen Farnsworth, a …
