There were shouts, cheers, cowbells and waving pompoms - not to mention hundreds of bike riders - taking part in the 20th annual American Diabetes Association's National Capital Tour de Cure. The event takes plac 83 cities nationwide, and raised almost $17 million for diabetes information, advocacy and research last year. Doubles teams gathered at North Hills Tennis Courts Friday and Saturday to participate in Raise A Racquet for Kids, a tournament that raised money for Laurel Learning Center, Reston Interfaith and Reston Tennis' HEART scholarship program.
Thursday is the last day to register for this weekend's Raise a Racquet for Kids doubles tennis tournament. The tournament, at North Hills Clay Courts, is sponsored by Reston Association and will benefit Reston Interfaith. Reston Tennis Director Mary Conaway says this is the first year Reston Association will host charity tournaments. Another event, Rally for Cure (June 24-26) will benefit the American Cancer Society.
