Leaving Reston

This morning I went to two volunteer breakfasts at two of my children's schools. I am full of good coffee, danish, fruit and the like... times two. It was bitterweet for me because my family is going to move out of the "bubble" that is Reston in August. I have lived here over 10 years. It is the only place my three younger children really ever remember living. The rising seventh and ninth grader are not happy with me! But really, like that would be any different at that age.

Sad to be leaving but happy to be setting out on a new adventure. I have made some great friends here in Reston, some who have already moved away to South Carolina and Pennsylvania, others who will live here their whole life.

I must admit to a tiny bit of gladness that I am leaving the Design Review Board before the RA Board kicks me off it in seven more years. My pre-emptive strike.

So many great memories of swim teams, soccer games, practices and tournaments, barbecues, orchestra concerts, SLHS graduation, All-County chorus, Math Superstars, Girls Scouts, Grace Art in the elementary schools, Hunters Woods Preschool, Design Review Board, Cub Scout and Boy Scouts, remodeling our 30-year-old townhouse, birthdays and graduations and good times.

Thanks, Reston, for the good times!

Thank you for your service to your fellow Restonians, I know I valued your service and hope others did as well.

Godspeed on your relocation.

But remember, if you don't live in Reston, you're just camping out!

Barbara, for doing what must be the most THANKLESS job in all of Reston as a volunteer-- thank you, thank you, thank you.

I can't believe you are leaving Reston! We will absolutely miss your voice on the DRB where your professional and courteous attitude helped mere mortals through the intimidating approval process. You are a gem. I wish you and your family the best in your new location but please feel free to return to the place you made better for all of us by your continuous kindness to others. This "home" will always be grateful...
