This year I wanted to have a canning seminar for the Reston residents who rent the garden plots through Reston Association. This has grown into an "event" for anyone in the Reston area! We will have a speaker, demo, door prizes and snacks!
On August 21 at 7:30 - 9:00, RA is hosting a canning seminar at Brown's Chapel on Baron Cameron Ave.
It is an RSVP meeting due to limited space of 50 people. So, if you are interested, please contact me directly at email@example.com.
On the agenda:
* Diane Blust, from Sustainable Reston, a Master Food Volunteer with the Virginia Cooperative Extension and a certified canning instructor, will talk about proper canning techniques as well as describe how to get started with fermentating food.
* New Family Naturals, the new health food store and juice bar at Lake Anne Plaza will put on a juicing demonstration.
* We will have a door prize raffle (unknown items at this time ... but might include a canned good or two!)
* Q & A
So, if you are interested because you have an abundance of produce this year from your own garden OR you plan on buying a bushel of tomatoes from the Reston Farmers Market this weekend, come and find out how easy it is to preserve the fruits of the season.
Thanks for your interest!
