Bringing You Healthy Living

Hello everyone! My name is Rebecca Kopperman. I was born and raised here in the Reston area.  Today, I wanted to take a moment and share with you my plan for this blog and what I hope you get out of it.

On this blog, I plan to share my personal experiences, the difficulty and success, while I strive to live a healthy lifestyle. I will also share any strategies, tips, or advice I find along the way. In return, I hope that you too decide to share your struggles and  triumphs, so that together we can help each other strive to be healthy in a world that supports bad habits.

A little more about me…

For undergrad, I went to Virginia Tech, where I learned to love, some would say become obsessed with, Hokie football.  From there, I went to New York where I become a Doctor of Chiropractic medicine, and now have returned to my hometown to start my practice and help my community live a healthier, happier life.

I first got my passion for medicine when I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. From this I have learned so much about myself, my body, and what it truly means to live a healthy life.  It is this knowledge that I hope to share with everyone, and I hope to continue learning new things.

While this blog may at times be a sounding board for me and my frustrations, it is
also meant to help all of us grow.  So, please contact me or leave a comment if there is something specific you would like information on. I look forward to sharing my knowlege and learning from yours.

Welcome - I think a lot of people share your struggles. We know what to do, but still have trouble living healthy. I just stumbled across this article this morning and thought it had some really good advice. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204124204577150702592157004.html?mod=WSJ_hp_mostpop_read

I'm looking forward to your comments. Nice to see a born & bred Restonian returning to the area.

I'd like to see a good debate about the value of chiropractic medicine versus physical therapy, medicines or surgery. My bias based on discussions with friends & colleagues who use chiropracters for their back pain is that it provides short-term relief of symptoms, but not a long-term solution. They continue to require visits indefinitely. I'm even more skeptical of suggesions that allignment of the spine is a means to cure or prevent other seemingly-unrelated diseases. Maybe you can put together a bit of a debate wtih a local orthopaedic surgeon and physical therapist. It woud be an interesting read to see the various viewpoints and evidence for areas of agreement and disagreement. Or perhaps you can just awaken me from my deep state of ignorance.
