Weekend Pick: Lake Anne Jazz Festival

Hit the plaza for live music.

For a change of scenery, change of pace and change of attitude, consider the this Saturday, Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Jazz Festival features polished performers who bring their talent to the stage.

The festival kicks off with Rashida Jolley, a Washington, DC, jazz harpist and vocalist. Jolley has appeared on America’s Got Talent, the Today Show and has toured with Lady Gaga.

After Jolley, World View takes the stage at 2 p.m.  The acoustic  group Veronneau performs Latin jazz and gypsy music at 3 p.m.  At 4 p.m., the Wayne Wilentz Quartet entertains with their arrangements of Latin, R&B and jazz pieces.

  Local favorite The Mykle Lyons Group (frequently seen at the and Brix American Bistro) brings the heart beat of New Orleans jazz to the Lake Anne festival at 5:30 p.m.

Brazilian jazz vocalist Cissy Paz will be the closing act (7:45 p.m.). Paz is known for her song interpretation and deep reverence for the culture of Brazil.

Throughout the day, local microbreweries and wineries will have tastings available. Many restaurants on Lake Anne Plaza will be serving food on their patios so patrons can enjoy the music. Artists and craftspeople will have booths with a wide variety of items for sale from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This event will be held rain or shine. Children are welcome. There is no admission charge.

The Lake Anne Jazz Festival is a joint venture of the Lane Anne Merchants, Friends of Lake Anne, the and the Reston Art Gallery, Two Sisters Creative  plus some anonymous jazz-loving supporters.
