Tysons Trees Find A New Home in Reston

Twelve trees transplanted at Stratton Woods.

JBG Rosenfeld Retail (JGBR), developers of the Tysons West mixed-use project,  recently donated 12 mature trees to for transplanting in the Reston area.

JGBR broke ground at Tysons West on Sept. 26 and soon after made plans to move the trees on the property and find them a new home in the county. Representatives called Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins, who said Stratton Woods Park would be an ideal spot to transplant the trees.

The Red Maples and Willow Oak were transplanted on Oct. 31 to a spot at Fox Mill Road and the corner of Fairfax County Parkway. The trees are at the perimeter of the park’s entrance and parking area, providing shade, beautification, and three-season screening. Reston Association also received two trees to be planted in the community.

“We believe every development we undertake should enrich the communities in which we build,” Jay Klug of JGBR says. “Saving these healthy trees and donating them to public spaces is a natural extension of these goals. We are thrilled to have found a new home for them.”

The value of the mature trees is more than  $12,000, and the cost of moving them amounted to approximately $10,000, covered by JBGR, who will also pay to maintain follow-up care through next spring.
