Stuff Restonians Say

The speech snippets that make up Reston.

Surely by now you have seen the viral videos making the rounds. There is "[Stuff] Yogis Say" and "[Stuff] Jewish Mothers Say" and "[Stuff] New Yorkers Say," to name a few.

Before we break out our video camera and eavesdrop from Hunters Woods to Northpoint, we thought we would make up a printed list of our own. Feel free to add your own snippets in the comments below the story. We'll give a Starbucks card to the response that is so totally Reston.

... They go to Terraset. Yes, the school in the hill

...the Farmers Market..

... table at Jacksons

... The assessments are HOW much this year?

... Approved color pallete

... DRB says the trim has to be either Dove White or Russet Brown

... a bald eagle at Lake Audubon

... just finished a ride on the W & OD to Leesburg

... The lottery for Hunters Woods

... It's an IB school

... Have you seen the Metro station? It looks like a real station!

... Workforce housing

... Mixed-Use development

... Triathlon registration starts at 7 p.m.

... Hug A Tree

... No, that's North Reston. They go to Herndon High

... I wish there were indoor tennis here

... I saw that on Reston Patch

... We swim Lake Newport this weekend.

... No, not the Starbucks at Town Center. The one next to Town Center, at Barnes & Noble.

\\Standing in RTC I am so sick of all of these chains. I wish there was some more local establishments in Reston.

\\Standing at Lake Anne God, I wish the Apple store was closer. I need a charger for my phone.

The <insert name> supermarket at Tall Oaks didn't fail because it's a bad location, they failed because they didn't carry the products their customers wanted to buy.

It's the size of a city, but it's not one, nor is it a town, but rather it's a community.

With all due respect, Mr. Butts, I've eaten at Ledo and I'm pretty sure you're the only one who has ever said that.

"We just don't DO that in Reston."
"Where are you from originally?"
"Let's meet at the fountain."
"I'll swing by the shelter to drop that off that donation after I get the library books I have on hold."
"Is that off Sunrise Valley or Sunset Hills?"

"I live three blocks from one!" (Chipotle, Apple Store, Uncle Julio's, Anthropologie, Sephora, Trader Joe's, etc.)
"Oh, we've got one of those here. It's pretty close. I walk there."
"Let's go grab some yogurt!"

Can you swim in the lakes?

I mean who else can introduce their founder at every event.
Are you going to Best of Reston?
We are volunteering at the Shelter this week, food pantry next week, wait your don't know Reston Interfaith is THE organization helping our neighbors in need. Yes we have people in need in Reston.
Of course we have a shelter, we also have affordable housing that is how we roll. Reston is the epitome of diversity.

Thanks for playing, everyone! (and feel free to continue adding).

We have two winners - Dianne Rose for mentioning party barges, and Ann Schindler for mentioning that Reston has no cemetery. How could I have forgotten those two things?

Send me your postal mail addresses (to kareng@patch.com) and I will mail you your Starbucks cards.
