Storm Near Tall Oaks Was a Tornado

Winds of 80 miles per hour uprooted trees, NWS says.

Preliminary reports say that the tornado touched down between 11:25 and 11:28 p.m.on April 27. Maximum wind speeds were 80 miles per hour. The width of the tornado was 75 yards and the length was 1.1 miles.

There were no reported injuries, but there was damage to trees, cars and property in the area of Wiehle Avenue, Wedge Drive, North Shore Drive and around the Tall Oaks Assisted Living facility.

The tornado began in a parking lot on Sunset Hills Road. It crossed Sunset Hills and blew through Hidden Creek Country Club's golf course, where it snapped several trees, according to the NWS report.

It then weakened sightly as it crossed North Shore and Wedge, damaging more trees.

It intensified again as it crossed Wiehle Avenue towards Tall Oaks Village Center
