Spectrum Starbucks to Remain Open
Barnes & Noble closing in February, but attached coffee shop will remain.
The Starbucks location at the Spectrum will remain open even though Barnes & Noble will be closing its doors in late February, a Starbucks spokeswoman confirmed.
The coffee shop is next door to the bookstore, with access to each other through a large interior opening.
There had been some concern from the community that the Starbucks location would close as well - even though Reston is home to five Starbucks stores.
Barnes & Noble announced last month it would close its Reston location after failing to agree to lease terms with shopping center owner Lerner Enterprises. A Container Store will open in its place in fall of 2013.

Oh, thank God...now no one will have to walk the extra five minutes around the corner to the other RTC Starbucks.
The hardships we face in our earth-toned paradise...

No, they'll drive over to the Reston Stabucks... Too far to walk for those daily Starbucks folks.

I guess at least it is not going to be a grocery store, but I agree with you Meg. I am disappointed that B&N is closing. Has there been any news on the Office Depot in the area? I'm just assuming that the new Staples will gobble up the market share in that sector. I'm almost surprised that no big corporate gym like LA Fitness - one of those mega gyms - has not poked its nose thru this opening yet. The gym at Plaza America seems to do pretty well.

Two updates K2- at the hearing on Spectrum yesterday, the developers pointed out that Harris Teeter will take over the existing Office Depot space eventually. Not known weather OD will open a new store or leave altogether. Also, Lifetime Fitness is planning to open off of Sunset Hills - near the Post office - in a year or so.

oh wow. Thanks for the amazingly quick update. I suppose maybe those changes are somewhat neutral. Although, not sure I'd want to go thru either of the two intersections (wiehle/sunset or sunset/hunter mills) to get to that new Lifetime gym during rush hour. Doesn't mean it won't be successful tho. Thanks Karen.
