South Lakes Chipotle To Open Jan .22

New store will be third location in Reston.

Coming early in 2013: Chipotle at South Lakes Village Center.

Representatives for Chipotle say they are eyeing a tentative opening date of Jan. 22.

The new location - Reston's third outpost of the fast-casual Mexican restaurant - has been approved since last spring and has been deep in renovations for the last month or so.

Hope your are walking otherwise, good luck finding parking. That shopping center has become so congested that I hate going there except very late or very early. Welcome to the new Reston, overcrowded, overtaxed, and many facilities in need of some TLC. - Gene

Gene: South Lakes Center has had a crowded parking lot --particularly at midday--for as long as most patrons can remember. Too bad that Tall Oaks or Hunters Woods centers don't have the same problem!
Southern Restonians can hardly wait to sink their teeth into a 1,400 calorie burrito! But one can always "walk it off" after lunch, right? That is, if you can manage to lift your bursting gut out of your seat and out the door! LOL (Hint: it takes a lot of walking to work off that burrito.) Should be a nice counterpoint to the "healthier" food available next door at Subway.

That parking lot has always been a problem. It's a poor design, was never big enough for the number of stores and the spots seem smaller than normal. That's not New Reston, that's just South Lakes shopping center.

Julie - Spot On! Did you noticed that they repainted the parking space lines over the summer. (and did a crappy job at that left the old lines visable and just added a new line) They did this to make the spaces smaller. and furthermore added another row. Now, you have to just about do a 3 point turn to get out. Now it gets really crazy when a store receives a delivery and the truck parks in the fire lane in front of the store making for only one lane open to pass on the perimeter. Yeah for Chipotle, but yes will have to walk or suffer a door ding! Also, think this is going to hurt Sano's.

Maybe as Reston moves closer towards its TOD doubling of population, the other shopping centers will suffer the same fate, Julie.

Yes, the parking lot is a little tight, especially at mid-day, but I think what some retailers are realizing is South Lakes VC is a bonanza for the walking crowd. It is on the bike path and in walking distance of SLHS and Langston Hughes. That means a nearby pool of over 3,000 teenagers, many of whom have plenty of money for snacks. Flippin Pizza, new yogurt place, Starbucks and even Safeway know this already, and the teen in my house is counting down till Chipotle opens.

Is there anything this community won't complain about?

It does seem that most people who are motivated enough to comment have something negative to say (but I do agree there is a lunchtime parking issue - unfortunately I don't live close enough to walk). I know that my son will be jealous that Chipotle went in to SLVC 6 months after he graduated from South Lakes! He would have been one of their best customers.

Yes, I do agree about the parking, but wow, is there not other times of the day you can go to the shopping center? If your not happy about this one find another plaza to attend considering there are many in just Reston alone. Can't we ever find a happy medium in this town? Seems lately there is so much for people to complain about, but nothing for you all to compliment on! Lets be happy that we are the luckiest people in the World to be able to live in such a wonderful place such as RESTON :)

Travel to Chantilly or Fairfax...then you'll see congested. I love Reston. As long as it doesn't get worse.

I've been at the Shopping Center several times recently right after the middle/high schools have let out and have been impressed with the well mannered teens/tweens that come through. How nice that they have this place to unwind and snack for a bit.

I'm so ready for Chipotle to open jan 22. I know it's not healthy food but if you don't like it then don't go there save everybody the space who ready wants Chipotle food and like you said there is subway next door :)
