The Reston Bike Club on Friday awarded prizes to six South Lakes High School students for their artful efforts in the design of the club's 30th anniversary cycling jersey.
SLHS student Tyler Hutchins has the winning design in the student contest.
Other prize winners included Nick Beaulac(second), Kaitlyn Hudenburg (third) and honorable mentions for Hadir Abdalla, Kristian Gendron, and Max Hijar.
Reston Bike Club (RBC) reps Dan Scrafford, Ed Robichaud, Ken Thompson, and Barb Lytle met with Principal Bruce Butler, fine arts teacher Amy Saylor, Director of Student Services Devina Johnson, and the prize winners in a ceremony at the school.
Part of being an organized non-profit group is the opportunity to give back to the community, RBC officer said. Over the last five years, RBC has worked with South Lakes' fine arts department. Art students get a chance to show their skills by submitting designs to the club.
The Reston Bike Club serves more than 700 cycling enthusiasts. It offers group rides and works with the public, governmental entities and cycling organizations via fairs, educational seminars, bike rodeos, etc., to promote education for both cyclists and drivers to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all.
Each year, the club also sponsors the Reston Century, which will be held this year on Aug. 26, with options of various distances (104, 65, 34 miles).
