"I was cruising into the final stretch behind bib 52 & 48 when some white car pulled into the middle and stopped, next thing I know I'm being rolled onto a board, trying to remember my name, cuts on my forehead from internal of the helmet, " Smith said in an email.

"I  heard I was like eight feet in the air.  I was out cold, and then spent an hour trying to figure out who I was, what day, why I was laying in the rain."

Smith said he would love to talk to anyone who witnessed the collision. He can be reached at scottsmithncsu88@yahoo.com, or by leaving a comment on this article.

Rodgers said the investigating officer has not yet completed the police report.
