Missionary Slain in Israel was South Lakes Grad

Kristine Luken was a member of class of 1984.

Kristine Luken, the American missionary who was stabbed to death in Israel on Saturday, had roots in Northern Virginia.

Luken. 44, and her twin sister, Kate, were members of South Lakes High School's class of 1984. The Class of '84's Facebook page features many class members expressing their sadness at the news.

Luken, who moved to England in recent years, was in Israel working for Church's Ministry Among Jewish People, a group that tries to get Jews to accept Christ as their savior. She talks about her work on a page on the group's website.

Luken and a fellow missionary were attacked on a trail outside Jerusalem. Officials say they were attacked by unknown Arab men. The other hiker, Kaye Susan Wilson, 46, was also stabbed, but survived.

The US Department of Education told the Associated Press that Luken worked for the agency from 1991 to 2007 as an accreditation analyst.

The AP reported Luken lived in Loudoun County before moving to Nottingham, England in 2007.

Luken's family has said she will be buried in the United States, but the location is as yet unkown.
