Man Dies After Being Hit by Car on Fox Mill
Victim was helping a truck back out of parking lot when he was hit by car.
A 69-year-old man from Mineral, VA was killed when he stepped into the street in an attempt to help a tractor-trailer backing out of a parking lot and was struck by an oncoming vehicle on Wednesday.
Fairfax County Police responded to the crash in the 2500 block of Fox Mill Road on Wednesday, Feb. 1 shortly after 11:30 a.m. The pedestrian, Basil Knick, was flown by helicopter to a local hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The striking vehicle, a 2004 Saturn Vue, driven by 59-year-old Darryl Barnes of Sterling, was travelling westbound on Fox Mill Road prior to the crash. Barnes apparently did not see Knick in the roadway, police said. He remained on the scene after the crash, and was charged with failing to pay full time and attention.
Crash reconstruction detectives continue to investigate the crash. Police said neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.

It would help to know which part of Fox Mill Road this was - not just 2500 block, but a nearby cross-street. Thanks.
