Original story:

Local soccer coach and South Lakes High School graduate Ty Lewis died Saturday at the age of 44.

Reston Patch profiled Lewis in February, when his family and friends held a walk at Lake Anne to benefit the Ty Lewis Cancer Foundation.

Lewis,  a 1984 graduate of South Lakes High School,  was a resident of Ashburn. Lewis, a former human resources administrator,  played soccer at South Lakes for four years and then played for Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC.  He started coaching Reston Youth Soccer in 1994.

Through several surgeries and more than three years of treatment, he remained a dedicated coach of the U16 Reston Knights FC.

He is survived by wife, Shannon and children Christopher and Samantha. He is also survived by his parents, Larry and Cindy Lewis, and sister Stacy.

Lewis Family
I met Ty about twice in the two years that I worked under Shannon and just from working with Shannon I knew how wonderful and loving of a husband, father, mentor, friend, and son that he was. I was so sorry and so upset to hear of his passing especially because of how great of a person he was. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and suffering the Lewis family must be going through right now. All I know is that the Lewis family is one heck of a strong family that can conquer anything that comes their way. Lewis family, you are in my thoughts and prayers and please know that Ty is smiling down on you and will be forever loved. Rest in peace Ty, everyone misses and loves you.

Yours Truly,
Stephanie Ingram
