Life on the Edge in the Woods

"The Connection" looks at one man's campsite in the shadow of Reston's pricey homes.

It is an ongoing issue in Reston - the homeless who are living in the woods rather in a shelter or, ideally, in a home.

Fairfax County outreach personnel know the handful of men living this way are there, as do staffers at They check in with them regularly and offer them a chance for shelter, supplies and services.

Cole lost his job in 2008. He lived in his car for a while, and then eventually his tent. He is optimistic his life circumstances will turn around.
