Community Corner

Letter to The Editor

Getting citizens involved is part of Hudgins' success.

Of all the local elected officials I’ve known, Cathy Hudgins is among the top ones who have deserved re-election.  She is among the top of the list when it comes to almost everything that matters – integrity, making local government work better, working to solve problems that we all have.

But the one effort that I’m most impressed with is her success in getting people involved in critically important decisions.  In our community of Reston, one of the key issues is how we can deal with changes that are happening as Metrorail comes to our community.  Cathy has faced every aspect of this head on and gotten many, many of us involved effectively.

She has educated us by creating a six-month long Reston Land Use College so that we all could get involved constructively with understanding of how decisions are really made.

She has created a task force (the Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force) that has involved many people who are interested in helping decide how we are going to control our future.  In setting this in motion, she has done a superb job of getting balance among stakeholders and community and empowering us to work together to develop effective guidance for building a better Reston and a better Fairfax County.
