What’s your story?

I started growing a geranium that my mother gave me when I was about 8 years old,  followed by a sweet potato on our windowsill. Then, I was a teacher — so I needed to grow my own food. I didn’t really love gardening as a kid, because of the weeding and cultivating. I do a lot of mulching now, so I don’t need to cultivate as much. My soil is improving all the time.

What’s the best part of your job?

Meeting people who like and appreciate my stuff.

What’s the worst part of your job?

The heat.  [Market Master] John Lovaas doesn’t air condition this place worth beans.

What’s something people should know about your products?

My customers bring me their wine corks to help me cultivate my soil. Judging from their corks, people in Reston drink pretty good wine.
