National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday. Make sure you are registered or your current registration is valid before the Oct. 15 deadline.
If you haven’t yet registered to vote, the deadline is just a few weeks away.
Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day, and thousands of local, state and national organizations are mobilizing to make sure millions of people don’t miss the chance to cast their vote in this year’s elections. There are already more than 717,000 registered voters in Fairfax County, according to August statistics from the State Board of Elections.
An estimated 6 million people nationwide didn’t vote in the 2008 elections because they either did not know how to register or because they missed the voter registration deadline.
The voter registration deadline in Virginia this year is Oct. 15.
Fairfax County's website has a lot of useful information for people who need to register or have questions about whether their current voter registration is valid. If you have moved from the address on your voter registration card or changed your name, you need to re-register. (Instructions on how to do so are here.)
Here’s information on how residents can register in time for the Nov. 6 elections:
If you aren't sure of the status of your voter registration, you can check it by going to the Virginia Board of Elections voter registration status service site.

In-person absentee voting is now open at the Government Center in Fairfax! If your commute (with unpredictable traffic) means you could be away from home for 11 hours on election day, you can vote absentee. There are many other legitimate reasons for choosing to vote on a convenient day rather than waiting for November 6. Vote early! Absentee voting information is here: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/elections/absentee.htm
