Young athletes ages 6 to 14 took to the streets of South Reston on Sunday for the second annual Reston Kids' Triathlon.

The course began with the swim at Ridge Heights Pool, cycling through the streets nearby, then running and the finish line at South Lakes High School.

The event was sponsored by Reston Association and the Fairfax County - Reston YMCA. In keeping with the mission of the sponsoring groups, there were scholarships offered to some athletes, including a group from Laurel Learning Center.

Proceeds will benefit RA and YMCA programs.

And thank you to all the volunteers!! I've been watching Reston triathlons for decades, always following a triathlete. This year I did volunteer a bit as I had time before my 12 year old began his race. I learned that the majority do not know anyone racing -- they really are just being super people who enjoying participating in the event.
