Fairfax County residents celebrated Veterans Day and a veteran politician survived a challenge to his seat in Congress.

Retired Vice Admiral Jerry Miller dreamed of being a naval aviator at 10 years old. His father brought him to see one of the new aircraft carriers in San Francisco just two years after Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Touring around the carrier with a petty officer, he fell in love.

Vienna veteran Ed Henry, who served in the Marine Corps, reflects on life after service and what vets really want on Veterans Day.


Herndon honored veterans in many ways on Veterans Day, including hosting the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps at Coates Elementary, an observance on the Town Green and the annual , held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Connolly survives
After a week of speculation on the possibility of a recount, challenger Keith Fimian conceded defeat to incumbent Gerry Connolly in the race for Virginia's 11th Congressional seat. Connolly won by less than a thousand votes after defeating Fimian by nearly 40,000 votes in 2008. 


It's been just over a year since their 20-year-old daughter disappeared from a Metallica concert in Charlottesville. Now Dan and Gil Harrington are afraid that the man who killed Morgan and raped another woman in Fairfax City will remain free to strike again.


Annandale bank robbed
The Wachovia Bank at 6565 Little River Turnpike in Alexandria just outside of Annandale was robbed on Monday. No one was injured and the robber fled with an undisclosed amount of money. Police currently have no suspects and are asking the public for information. 



During the Herndon Metro community workshop Monday the majority of area residents attending said they found the higher-density plan that was presented attractive to them but had concerns about traffic. The town has been working to guide redevelopment plans for the area surrounding Herndon's future Metro station.


Project Runway lands at West Potomac Academy

West Potomac Academy's fashion design class hosted professional designers from Bravo TV's Project Runway and The Fashion Show. Jerell Scott and Reco Chapple shared their exciting stories with the class and answered the young designers' questions.

His friends said he'd be "just another engineer who opens a restaurant," without a stake in its success. But a year later, chef Tim Ma's restaurant Maple Ave is attracting diners who appreciate his focus on local, eclectic cuisine.
