County Planning Commission Will Hear About Fairway Plans Thursday

Several opponents expected to speak.

Developer JBG's latest plans for the redevelopment of Reston's Fairway Apartments will be discussed in a public hearing at Thursday's Fairfax County Planning Commission meeting.

Reston Association's Planning and Zoning Committee approved the concept of the plan at an April meeting, and the RA Design Review Board deferred decision - though it was leaning towards non approving it - in late June.

The saga of what to do with the aging garden apartment complex has been going on since 2008, and has been presented in several forms. What began as a proposal for 951 units in four towers has morphed into 804 units spread among a campus of five-story buildings and townhouses.

Among those expected to testify at Thursday's meeting: Sustainable Reston and the Reston Citizens Association.

The hearing begins at 8:15 p.m. It will be broadcast on Comcast Channel 16 beginning at 8:05 p.m. Thursday.
