First Master Plan Phase II Meeting is Wednesday

Task Force to start talking about village centers.

For nearly two years, the Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force has been discussing its vision for the community as the arrival of Metro in late 2013 transitions Reston to a more transit-oriented community.

That process - originally scheduled to wrap up last spring - is ongoing. Meanwhile, discussions about the Phase II of the process - taking a look at Reston's Village Centers - will start on Wednesday, Nov. 16, when a community meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at South Lakes High School.

The informational meeting will be hosted by Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins and the county Department of Planning and Zoning. The first 15 minutes of the meeting will be an open house with an opportunity to review related maps and materials.

The purpose of the meeting is to outline the process and time frame for reviewing and updating the existing Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan guidance for preserving residential neighborhoods throughout Reston and for four of Reston's five Village Centers (Lake Anne was the subject of a recent Comprehensive Plan change and will not be reconsidered in this process).

There will also be an opportunity to learn about the Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force, the Vision and Planning Principles adopted by the Task Force, and how they will be used in Phase II.

Additional community-wide meetings related to Phase II will be held in the first quarter of 2012, Hudgins said.

What suggestions do you have for the task force about Phase II? Tell us in the comments.

Please check out this post on Reston 2020's blog for additional information. Maybe most importantly, Phase II of the task force will be re-planning our neighborhoods, including the village centers. Come and learn about the process.
