Swimming: SLHS Advances Several Relays to Regionals

South Lakes swimmers went into the Liberty District finals Saturday night looking to improve times and existing placements for the upcoming Northern Region Finals meet next weekend. The girls elevated all three of their relays with fast swims while the boys improved their 4X100 relay to make it to Regionals.

The girls’ 200 Medley relay team of Natalie Obando, Kaylyn Macaluso, Sabrina Groves and Sasha Avilov posted a time of 1:53.03, placing fourth overall. Avilov, Macaluso, Tope Oladimeji and Katie Degutis qualified with their 200 Free Relay (1:44.93) and Katie Lee, Degutis, Obando and Groves will enter with their 4X100 Free Relay (3:49.89).

Sebastian Waldschmidt, John Hughes, Sean McCrone and Mac Sogandares swam their 4X100 freestyle relay in 3:33.08, qualifying for a spot in the Regionals meet.

Sophomore Obando, who already has a AAA State cut in the 100 backstroke, earned an individual Regionals cut with her 200 freestyle time of 2:00.47.

The Northern Region Swim Meet begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Oak Marr Rec Center.

Boys prelim events take place on Thursday evening; girls prelims will be on Friday evening, starting at 5:30.

Finals for both boys and girls events are on Saturday.
