Katie Blomquist, a fourth-grade teacher at Sunrise Valley Elementary School, has been named the 2012 Virginia Council for the Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award.
Blomquist won a $500 prize, plus a classroom subscription to Stratelogica, the Nystrom on-line map program.
Blomquist currently serves as a Social Studies Lead, Cluster Lead, and Great Beginnings Coach at the school.
