South Lakes High School students were among the winners in the Virginia High School League’s (VHSL) Writing, Photography, Design Journalism contest. 

In the Group AAA Newspaper category, South Lakes High School winners include:

• Photo:  News-Feature: honorable mention, Kaley Duncan
• Photo:  Sports:  second place, Kaitlin Welker, South Lakes High School
• Inside Page Layout-Spread:  third place, Julie Thomas and Kaley Duncan, South Lakes High School

Publications from the 2010-11 school year were judged for this contest.

A total of 1,217 entries were recognized in the competition for high school magazine, newspaper, and yearbook journalists.  Entries were submitted from 56 student publications, and winners were selected based on meeting standards for outstanding journalism, then on the basis of quality.
