South Lakes High School Band will celebrate a season of success at the annual Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 in the Little Theater at South Lakes High School.
The Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band, both under the direction of Grayson Fore, will perform for the public in a concert that is free of charge.
This year’s winter concert is the culmination of a very successful Fall season for the “Spirit of Reston” marching band and the Wind Ensemble concert band.
The marching band and Color Guard claimed several honors and awards in various competitions including the US Bands Showcase competition held at Park View High School in Sterling.
The band finished first in Class 5A and won special awards for Best Percussion, Best Guard, Best Visual, Best Effect and Best Music. The judges were particularly laudatory for the use of violin and oboe in this performance. The marching band also earned a rating of “Excellent” at the state assessment held at Liberty High School in Bealton, VA and sponsored by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association.
The Wind Ensemble concert band enjoyed one of its highest honors when selected to perform at the annual statewide conference of the Virginia Music Educators Association held in November at the Homestead Hotel in Hot Springs, Virginia. Band, orchestra and choral directors from all over the state convened at this huge event and formed what can only be described as a very discerning audience.
The South Lakes Wind Ensemble gave one of its best performances ever of a very demanding repertoire and received high acclaim from the music professionals assembled at the conference.
Congratulations to all of the students of the South Lakes bands and to their director for a season of awards and great success.
The public is cordially invited to hear these outstanding young musicians perform a wonderful selection of music including holiday favorites at the Winter Concert.
