The Sciborg Stars, a First Lego League (FLL) Division 1 team of 5th and 6th graders from Reston, Herndon, Vienna, Great Falls and McLean won 1st Place at their qualifying regional competition at West Potomac High School in Alexandria last weekend.  This year, First Lego League teams from around the world are competing with the theme, " Senior Solutions", which includes not only Robotics, but also Research and Core Values (Teamwork and Outreach).   The Senior Solutions theme has led all teams competing to get to know Seniors and the issues they face everyday, as well as allowing them to work on an innovative solution to improve the lives of Seniors.  The team will be moving on to the State FLL competition taking place at James Madison University over a two day period (Dec 8 & 9) with roughly 50 other teams in Div. 1 from all over Virginia.  As a part of the team's ongoing outreach efforts, The Sciborg Stars will be collecting personal hygiene items for seniors displaced by Hurricane Sandy who can no longer receive services they count on from the St. Francis Community Center on Long Beach Island, NJ, which was devastated by the storm.  If you would like to donate toiletry and personal hygiene items to this effort, please send an email to: ssfll2012@gmail.com.  The team will be shipping out boxes through the next couple of weeks.  FLL is an international program with over 205,000 children participating worldwide and 20,500 teams currently active!
