Bechtel Corporation, one of the world’s largest engineering, construction and project management companies, will relocate its Global Operations headquarters and other functions from Maryland to Reston, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced.
The company also will locate its Government Services business unit, its U.S.-based Civil business, Bechtel Enterprises, and corporate functions and services in Fairfax County, creating a total of 625 new jobs.
Bechtel will lease about 200,000 square feet between the One Reston Overlook and Two Reston Overlook buildings near Reston Town Center.

Since they're only moving from Frederick, MD, the employees will stay in their current homes and add 685 additional cars to Route 15 or the Legion Bridges every morning and evening.
And when they go home at night, their state income tax payments will be sent to Annapolis, not Richmond.
The only party making out on this move is the landlord.
Hopefully, McDonnell didn't give them a lot of money to induce the move.

John, the landlord pays taxes in Va., these employees will be spending some portion of their salaries in Va (buying gas, eating lunch, TOLLS, etc.). A certain number of these people will move from Frederick to Va. A certain number will just give up their jobs because it's too far for them to commute, with these replacement workers likely coming from our local economy. So, it's not as if there won't be money coming into the local economy or into government coffers as a result.
With that said, I would question whether we even need these jobs. We don't need the extra traffic this is going to generate. It's very unlikely these employees will be using Metro to commute to their jobs. if they come from Md., they would have to take the Red line to Metro Center from Shady Grove, transfer to the Orange line to West Falls Church and then use the 951/952 or maybe the 505/555 to Reston. With that as an option, they'll likely just drive.
From where I'm sitting, it would be no sweat off of my back or most Restonian's backs if Bechtel didn't come to No Va.

It is unlikely that the landlord's real estate taxes will change because of this lease.
What number of employees will relocate to VA?
What number of employees will chose not to relocate and what number of those jobs will go to Va residents?
Those numbers will be very small.
Many teachers at South Lakes commute further than Frederick.
I'm curious, Convict. if I write "up," will you always write "down?"
